Good watch, inaccurate desciption...Mar 21, 2011

This isn't a bad watch: it looks cool, the luminescent technology is excellent but be aware that this watch is NOT steel-cased (if it matters to you at all), neither it is sapphire glass (it is hardened mineral, cheaper version). Before you buy this (or any other watch from Amazon) I suggest you check with the watch manufacturer's website the technical details and whether they will acknowledge the warranty, since Amazon very often is unauthorized dealer)... Here is the description of the watch above from [...]: *Case material: PC carbon reinforced case *Case back: Caseback with Screws *Crown: Security Screw-On crown with protection *Crystal/Glass material: Hardened Mineral It is however a beautiful watch, I personally don't like plastic cases, even carbon reinforced ones. Luminox do make PVD coated steel ones as well, but they are more expensive (not this model).

Nice watch for Law Enforcement...need a better watch band!!!Nov 13, 2011
By j292g I've been in Law Enforcement for the last 14 years and a Luminox Navy seal 3900 series watch has been attached to me the whole time. The abuse that it has undergone day to day was immense. Other that sending it off for a new battery and new band every few years, its been flawless. I was ready to upgrade to a newer version as a treat to myself and because I knew Luminox was going to hold up in my line of work. I was considering the 3051.BO series (very simular to 3900 series, only blacked out) when I found the 3081.BO series w/ Chronograph. I loved the overall appearance of the watch compaired to 3051 series. The price difference was only about $40 (on amazon), so the decision was simple. I wore the watch about a week and the watch band drove me nuts! It was always coming loose at the second retraing strap for the band. A watch this nice deserves better than a crappy rubber watch band! The solution was simple....upgrading to a black stainless steel band that I bought for $50 off amazon. I am very glad I did. The watch looks nicer, is more comfortable, and I don't have any issues with the second rubber retaining strap coming loose. Great watch, looks sharp w/ uniform, needs a better watch band!

I like the BlackoutJan 01, 2011

I got this watch as a Christmas present. I really love it. It is Black as night, the photos do not do the watch justice. The whole watch is dark black with only different finishes to the black; brushed mat and shiny. Even the black rotating bezel has the numbers painted in shiny black. You have never seen anything like this. In bright light you can see the details on this watch, in dim light you can only see the hour marks and the 3 hands everything else is a shade of black. This is a very stealth watch.
I am keeping this but you may want to save a few bucks and buy the non chronograph version since the dials are hard to see, Luminox Evo Navy Seal Blackout Mens Watch 3051.BLACKOUT

3081.BO Luminox WatchFeb 16, 2012
By cfuentes First, I have to say this is a good looking watch.
And for those of us whose eyesight ain't what it used to be, this works fine. The chronograph functions are pretty simple to use, the button stops are positive and easy to accuate. A lot of folks might not care for the strap, but for me it comfortable and very functional. I tend to be very hard on watches; most don't last more than a couple of years, so it'll be interesting to see how this holds-up. There are other versions of this watch that have steel cases/bands. Personally, I like this because of the light weight.
One of the other reviewers commented on the crystal material. He is dead-bang on. It is just hardened mineral, not sapphire. The bezel is sapphire coated, which might be contributing to the confusion from Amazon's description. Nonetheless, at the present price, it is an excellent bargain. If you have any questions about the watch, Luminox's website has a good tech spec:

Things to knowSep 20, 2011
By P. Willis If you are allergic to nickel and can get this watch for less than 350 USD then it's a good choice. It's light as a feather and that really makes the difference if you wear watches on your strong arm. The movement can be purchased online for 50 bucks; it's just another mass produced swiss made. For a regular old analog quartz it should last longer than the tritium, which is the real allure of the watch. Tritium had a half life of 12 years meaning half of the tritium will decay in that time meaning the tubes will be half as bright. What this means for you us in 25 years the tubes will be 1/4 their original brightness. It doesn't take much light for our eyes to notice in the dark so the watch may still be functional after that, don't bet on it too much though. It should be noted that the chronograph and second hands use regular lume that isn't visible in pitch black unless it's charged by a bright light first and even then goes out in ten minutes. It would have been nice to at least see super luminova if not more tritium. Also note that the chronograph is accurate only to one second if that makes a difference. It saves a great deal of battery that way anyway. Projected battery life is 4 years but if I don't use the chronograph often I suspect longer. It looks very sleek and you notice the tritium any time it's dim enough to not see the face (most flat lighting included). If you are militant and want function over form get a g shock, don't fool yourself. If you want a good looking watch that your can take anywhere (especially if you are allergic to nickel and like light watches) then this is the watch for you.
